Registration deadlines arrive sooner than families expect, and the time left before a sitting decides what kind of preparation fits. Both are below.

National SAT dates through mid-2027.

All deadlines expire at 11:59 p.m. ET, and apply to every student, in the United States and internationally.

Late registration is available worldwide, with additional fees. Students borrowing a device from College Board should register at least 30 days before test day. Sourced from satsuite.collegeboard.org. Always confirm on the official site before registering, since dates occasionally shift.

Choosing a date

Work backward from the test.

Pick the sitting first, then plan the preparation that fits in front of it. Three things decide which sitting is the right one.

Runway sets the plan

A few weeks is enough to sharpen timing and fix one or two weak spots. Rebuilding a whole section takes longer, so for a full plan start ten weeks or more before your target date. Once we have the diagnostic, we match the plan to the date.

Junior spring is the window

Most students take the SAT in the spring of junior year, with a second attempt available before applications go in. Junior spring fills first.

Leave room for a retake

Plan the first sitting early enough that a second one is still possible. A score you can improve on is worth more than a score with no room left after it.
